Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro has announced that talks with the United States will resume on Wednesday, after receiving proposals from the US for two months. The dialogue process will focus on the US complying with agreements signed in Qatar and establishing dialogue based on respect without manipulation. Maduro emphasized the importance of conducting public dialogues without speculation and expressed his desire for understanding and future changes in relations between the two countries while upholding Venezuela’s sovereignty and independence. He appointed Jorge Rodriguez, President of Parliament, and Hector Rodriguez, Governor of Miranda state, as representatives for Venezuela in this dialogue process.

The talks between the US and Venezuela have been on and off since March 2022, with agreements reached including the partial lifting of US sanctions against Venezuela. However, issues arose when Venezuela failed to comply with agreements, leading to the reversal of sanctions relief. The upcoming negotiations aim to address these issues and seek new agreements for both countries’ benefit. Maduro’s announcement indicates a willingness to engage in dialogue with the US to improve relations and address outstanding issues between the two nations.
