George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the long-awaited latest addition to his post-apocalyptic series, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The film received a standing ovation that lasted over 7 minutes after its screening at the Palais in Cannes, with stars like Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Burke in attendance.

Baz Lurhmann, known for his film Elvis, described Furiosa as “a steampunk, Wagnerian opera” as he exited the theater. Following the screening, Miller expressed gratitude for the audience’s reception, stating that the team had worked hard on the film and looked forward to the audience’s reactions.

The film serves as a prequel to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, focusing on the origin story of Furiosa who is taken from the Green Place of Many Mothers and gets entangled with different factions led by characters played by Hemsworth and Burke. Despite these allegiances, Furiosa ultimately forms a bond with a mysterious warrior in the Wasteland as they join forces to control a valuable resource, petroleum.

Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays Furiosa in the film, mentioned that the character’s quiet and isolated nature resonated with her during filming. She expressed that the emotional journey of the character, as depicted in the script, allowed her to convey authentic emotions on screen.
