IndianOil Corp. Ltd (IOCL) has recently selected Lummus Technology’s cumene technology for a new 440,000 tpy unit in Paradip, India. This project is part of a larger petrochemical and polymers expansion at IOCL’s complex in Paradip. Lummus Technology’s cumene process uses liquid-phase alkylation technology with a proprietary zeolite catalyst, resulting in high cumene yield, ultra-high purity cumene product, and a long catalyst run length. The project is expected to provide IOCL with lower energy costs, improved reliability, operational efficiency, and better product yield.

The scope of Lummus’ involvement in the project includes the technology license for cumene, basic design engineering, proprietary catalyst, site services, advisory services, and training. IOCL has previously licensed multiple Lummus technologies for various complexes across India, including naphtha cracker, INDMAX FCC, and polypropylene technologies. Lummus has been in partnership with Versalis to license cumene technologies since 2007. Romain Lemoine, Chief Business Officer for Polymers and Petrochemicals at Lummus Technology expressed his optimism about the project and looks forward to continuing their successful partnership with IOCL.
