LSU’s coaching staff has made significant progress in recruiting blue-chip defensive end Damien Shanklin. Over the weekend, the Tigers hosted the four-star prospect for an official visit, leaving Shanklin feeling very positive about LSU. On3’s Steve Wiltfong reports that Shanklin had a great experience during the visit and is now predicted to become part of LSU’s 2025 class.

According to Wiltfong and Billy Embody, LSU is currently in second place with a 43.1% chance of landing Shanklin, with Notre Dame leading at 49.2%. Despite competition from Tennessee and Ohio State, LSU looks set to secure Shanklin’s commitment. At nearly 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, Shanklin is highly regarded as a four-star recruit by all four major recruiting services.

On3 even ranks Shanklin as the fifth-best edge rusher in his class and the top recruit in the state of Indiana. Although LSU hasn’t historically recruited heavily from Indiana, Shanklin’s connection to Brian Kelly could help secure his commitment to the Tigers. This news should be exciting for LSU fans who are optimistic about Shanklin potentially joining their team.
