In the aftermath of the passing of President Michael R. Lovell, the Marquette community is coming together to mourn and remember his legacy through various opportunities for prayer and reflection on campus.

One way members of the university community can pay their respects is by visiting the cross on the second floor of the Alumni Memorial Union next to the information desk. They can write a message on a ribbon and affix it to the cross as a symbol of remembrance.

In addition to this, there are two books of remembrance where individuals can share their thoughts and condolences for President Lovell. These books have been placed in different locations – one near the cross in AMU, and another at St. Joan of Arc Chapel for people to write heartfelt messages that will be delivered to the Lovell family.

Campus prayer vigils are ongoing at St. Joan of Arc Chapel, providing a space for individuals to come together in prayer, light a candle at the memorial for President Lovell, and write a message in one of the books of remembrance. Opportunities for communal prayer include a 10 p.m. Mass at St. Joan of Arc Chapel on Tuesday, June 18th, as well as an earlier rosary for President Lovell at Marian Grotto (time TBA), followed by Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration until 2 p.m., and a noon Mass on Thursday, June 20th at St. Joan of Arc Chapel with Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration until 2 p.m.

For those who may need mental health support during this time, resources are available to members of both faculty/staff and students on campus.

Faculty/staff can access counselors 24/7 through Marquette’s employee assistance program by calling 1-800-634-6433 or visiting their website using password MU1.

Students can find support at Marquette Counseling Center in Holthusen Hall where staff is available for drop-in visits or appointments during regular business hours with counselors accessible via phone around-the-clock.

Together as a community, we come together to honor President Lovell’s memory while also supporting each other through this difficult time.
