On Thursday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a violent mental health call in a Lynwood neighborhood. A resident, who had stopped taking medication, began attacking family members at their home on Olanda Street. Deputies were alerted to the situation just before 4:30 p.m., and heard a gunshot in the background of the call.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered that the home was on fire. Luckily, both the family members and the suspect had safely vacated the premises without sustaining any injuries. The helicopter was brought in to assist in the situation and landed in a street about a block away from the home where the incident was taking place.

Following the evacuation of the home, deputies took the suspect into custody while the Los Angeles County Fire Department worked to extinguish the flames.
