On June 2, 2024, the Central Colorado Humanists (CCH) will be hosting their Sunday Science program with the topic being “The Influences of Wildfire in Genetic Diversity of Trout in Rocky Mountain Headwater Streams.” The presenter for this program is Taylor Stack, a 2016 graduate of Salida High School and a two-time recipient of a Central Colorado Humanists scholarship.

Taylor studied wildlife conservation biology and biochemistry at Western Colorado University before pursuing his master’s degree in fish, wildlife, and conservation biology at Colorado State University. His future plans include working as a species conservation biologist. Aside from his academic pursuits, Taylor is also known for his achievements in running, having won the state championship in the mile event in 2016 and achieving various victories throughout his career.

The event will take place at the Scout Hut at 210 East Sackett Ave., Salida, CO, starting at 10:00 a.m. Stream Explorers will have the opportunity to learn about local water ecosystems and even fish for the trout that inhabit them. In addition to the presentation, the event will also feature the announcement and introduction of the recipients of the 2024 scholarship awards. These scholarships include four $1,500 awards for Buena Vista graduates going to college, one $1,000 award for a student entering trade school, four $1,500 awards for Salida graduates, and three $1,000 scholarships for students receiving their second CCH scholarship.
