Local educators and industry leaders gathered at Rockford University for the 2024 Business Summit to collaborate on education and business goals. The event, which was double the size of last year’s attendance, brought together essential stakeholders in education and workforce preparation, including K-12, local community colleges, four-year institutions, and post-graduate programs like UIC Medicine.

Rockford University President Patricia Lynott highlighted the importance of discussing fast-changing topics such as artificial intelligence and technology during the second annual event. Mayor Tom McNamara and other area officials addressed attendees, while local keynote speakers shared insights on industry changes and information. Associate Vice President of Business Innovation Deepshikha Shukla noted the existing skill gap in the workforce due to rapidly evolving technology and an aging workforce. To address this, Rockford University offers certificate programs that can serve as “stackable credentials” to enhance individuals’ resumes.

Shukla emphasized the importance of making programming affordable, accessible, and beneficial for career advancement. Lynott emphasized the need to showcase Rockford’s strengths in medicine, education, and industry to the rest of the world.
