England recently faced Slovenia in the Euro 2024 match, and Anthony Gordon made a late appearance as a substitute. The Liverpool forward was the subject of a proposed deal with Newcastle United, which would have seen Jarell Quansah moving in the opposite direction. However, Liverpool ultimately rejected the offer as they did not see it as beneficial for them.

Gordon signed with Newcastle for a hefty sum in January 2023 and has been a standout player for the Magpies. Despite Liverpool’s admiration for the 23-year-old, they chose not to pursue the deal. He scored 11 goals in the league last season and was named the club’s player of the season for 2023-24. Paris St-Germain is also reportedly interested in Gordon.

On the other hand, Liverpool was not willing to part ways with 21-year-old Quansah. The young centre-back has become a regular starter for the team and was even included in the preliminary England squad for Euro 2024. With a strong lineup of forwards including Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota, Liverpool did not find it necessary to add Gordon to their squad.

Liverpool’s decision to reject Newcastle’s proposed deal came after much deliberation and consideration of various factors. They ultimately decided that Quansah’s contributions to their team were too valuable to let go of and that Gordon would be better off staying with Newcastle where he could continue to thrive as a standout player
