Liverpool has decided not to pursue an offer from Newcastle to sign Anthony Gordon in a player exchange deal involving Jarell Quansah. Newcastle was eager to sell their Player of the Year before June 30 in order to avoid penalties for breaching financial rules.

Despite admiring Gordon, Liverpool ultimately decided against the deal for several reasons. They highly value Quansah as an established first-team player and a potential future England international, and they felt they had sufficient depth on the left wing with players like Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, and Darwin Nunez available.

Gordon had a successful season with 11 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League after his £45m move from Everton in January 2023. Newcastle’s interest in Quansah indicates their need to sell players before the deadline and strengthen their defense following injuries to key players like Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles.

Overall, Liverpool’s decision not to engage in an exchange deal with Newcastle underscores their commitment to keeping key players and maintaining a strong squad for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Newcastle continues its search for ways to improve its performance on the field while complying with financial regulations before June 30th.
