Liverpool is reportedly looking to sign Joao Neves, a highly-rated midfielder from Benfica, during the upcoming summer window. Neves has become one of Europe’s most promising young talents after impressing in the past two seasons for Benfica and earning recognition for his performances. In the 2023-24 season, he made 55 appearances for the club and was named Primeira Liga Midfielder of the Month on five occasions. At just 19 years old, Neves has already earned seven senior caps for Portugal and been included in the squad for Euro 2024.

Although Benfica is reluctant to sell him, Liverpool is determined to acquire Neves’ services and is willing to make a significant offer to do so. The Portuguese club has set an asking price of €120m (£101.3m) for Neves, which would be more than double Liverpool’s current record transfer fee paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018. However, Liverpool sees Neves as a valuable addition to its team that could help it compete at the highest level both domestically and in European competitions.

In addition to Neves, Liverpool is also monitoring other talented players from Portugal such as Benfica defender Antonio Silva and Sporting Lisbon center-back Goncalo Inacio. Both players have been called up to the Portugal squad for Euro 2024, showcasing the wealth of talent coming from Portuguese clubs. The recent signings of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez from the Primeira Liga have proven successful additions to Liverpool’s team, further highlighting the quality of players available in Portugal.

Overall, Liverpool’s pursuit of Joao Neves and other Portuguese talents demonstrates its commitment to building a competitive team capable of challenging for top honors both domestically and in European competitions. With their impressive track record of signing top talent from around the world, it will be interesting to see if they can secure Neves’ services this summer window.
