The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has suspended Monaco midfielder Mohamed Camara for four games after he covered up anti-homophobia messages on his shirt during a match against Nantes in Ligue 1. Camara, a 24-year-old Mali international, placed white tape over the campaign logo on his chest, leading to disciplinary action by the LFP.

In a statement, the LFP revealed that Camara’s refusal to participate in raising awareness against homophobia influenced their decision. France’s sports minister also called for strong sanctions against Camara in response to his actions during the match.

All Ligue 1 clubs had displayed the campaign logo on their kits on the final day of the season, with the competition’s emblem on team shirts featuring rainbow colors as part of the LFP initiative. Camara also covered up the rainbow emblem on his shirt during the game.

The Malian Football Federation expressed solidarity with Camara, emphasizing the protection of players’ rights as citizens. Monaco’s chief executive, Thiago Scuro, stated that the club supports the LFP’s campaign and will address the situation with Camara internally.
