Liberty University’s Department of Biology and Chemistry is hosting its first Summer Science Camp for incoming freshman and local high school students from June 24 to 28. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, offering participants the opportunity to engage in a variety of science activities. These include EKGs to observe heart electrical activity, forensic science with fingerprinting and crime scene assessment, human cadaver dissection, organic chemistry, microbiology, and more. All activities will be hands-on and supervised by Liberty professors, undergraduates, and graduate students.

The Department Chair, Dr. Ben Kalu, emphasized the importance of exposing students to the natural sciences before they enter college. He mentioned that providing guidance and counseling to high school students interested in pursuing a career in science is crucial. The camp aims to showcase the expertise of the faculty, the quality of programs offered, and the advanced equipment available within the department.

One of the primary goals of the Summer Science Camp is to encourage students from families without a college background to see that obtaining a college education is achievable. By highlighting the fascinating aspects of science and demonstrating the opportunities available at Liberty University, the camp intends to inspire students to consider pursuing a career in the field.
