Lexi Thompson, a successful American professional golfer, has announced her retirement from golf after the 2024 LPGA season. The announcement was made just before the U.S. Women’s Open, which is set to begin on Thursday at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania. Thompson, who turned pro in 2010 and has had a career marked by numerous milestones and achievements, is retiring at the age of 29.

Thompson made history at a young age when she qualified to play in the U.S. Women’s Open at the age of 12 in 2007. Since then, she has had an illustrious career on the LPGA Tour, making 18 straight appearances at the U.S. Women’s Open and winning 15 tournaments throughout her career. Her only major victory came in 2014 at the Chevron Championship, but she has consistently been a force to be reckoned with on the tour.

Despite her successes, Thompson has not won a tournament since 2019, and this season has seen mixed results including a T3 finish. However, over the years she has achieved many milestones in her career that will be remembered for years to come – including winning the U.S Girls’ Junior Championship in 2008 and making the cut at the U.S Women’s Open in 2009 at the age of 14. She also represented the United States six times at the Solheim Cup and twice on the U.S Olympic team in 2016 and 2021.
