Lenovo, a technology company based in China and the largest manufacturer of personal computers in the world, is anticipating an increase in demand as a result of new artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Recently, US software giant Microsoft introduced new AI features for its Windows operating system, which Lenovo computers utilize. Mirco Krebs, an executive at Lenovo, stated that PCs with AI functions are expected to significantly change user behavior similar to how the internet and smartphones have in the past, driving growth for the company.
In addition to this, Microsoft’s plan to end support for the Windows 10 operating system in October 2025 could also contribute to Lenovo’s growth. An estimated 8 million PCs in Germany alone may need to be replaced as they will be unable to run the new Windows 11 system. Krebs noted that this potential need for replacement could further drive demand for Lenovo products in the coming years.
Lenovo saw a 9% year-over-year increase in global turnover during the last quarter, reaching $13.8 billion. Profits also rose from $114 million to $248 million during that period. The growth experienced by Lenovo was primarily driven by strong demand from businesses while consumer sales remained sluggish. Despite this slowdown in recent years following a surge in demand during the coronavirus pandemic, Lenovo has been able to maintain its position as a leading player in the PC market due to its ability to adapt and innovate with new technologies like AI.
