Leicester City has announced the departure of six players at the end of the season, including Women’s Super League captain Aileen Whelan. The club also announced that Scottish defender Sophie Howard and Belgian midfielder Janice Cayman have signed contract extensions until the end of the 2024-25 season.

Howard, who has made over 100 appearances for Leicester, played in all 22 league games last season and was a key member of the team. Cayman, who joined from Lyon last summer, featured in 28 matches and helped the team reach the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time.

The departures of Aimee Palmer, Remy Siemsen, Josie Green, Demi Lambourne, Monique Robinson, and Aileen Whelan have left a gap in Leicester’s squad. However, their extensions with Howard and Cayman will strengthen their squad for the upcoming seasons.

The club is looking to build on their 10th place finish in the WSL last season and continue to improve under the guidance of their experienced players.
