Dave Nitz, a legendary college baseball play-by-play announcer, is retiring after this season. With a broadcasting career spanning nearly 60 years, Nitz has called over 4,500 Louisiana Tech games, including eight seasons of Lady Techsters basketball starting from the late 1970s. In addition to his role as Voice of the Bulldogs, Nitz spent 36 summers broadcasting professional baseball and also served as an assistant sports information director for Louisiana Tech in the 1970s and 1980s.

The Louisiana Tech community paid tribute to Nitz during the final regular season game at The Love Shack, honoring his contributions to the university and the sports community. As a Hall of Fame broadcaster, Nitz leaves behind a remarkable legacy that has left a lasting impact on the world of sports broadcasting.

In a one-on-one interview with Sports Director Aaron Dietrich, Nitz reflected on his career and shared some of his most memorable moments behind the microphone. The Louisiana Tech community and fans will surely miss Nitz’s distinctive voice and passion for the game, but his influence will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who have had the pleasure of listening to him over the years.
