Students at Lee Elementary School recently took part in their first entrepreneurship fair, an event that allowed them to delve into the world of business and finance. The inspiration for this exciting occasion came from their reading of Ty Allen Jackson’s book, “Make Your Own Money”.
After immersing themselves in the book’s pages, students were tasked with creating their own businesses based on their interests and talents. They got to work by designing business cards, slideshows, and presentation boards while also preparing to pitch their ideas to their peers.
Throughout the project, students gained valuable skills such as writing a business plan and managing a budget. They were encouraged to think creatively and come up with unique business concepts, which ranged from dog-walking services to tree removal to selling food and drinks.
Lee Public Schools’ commitment to promoting financial literacy among students is evident in this initiative. Fifth-grade teacher Michele Puleri explained that they aim to introduce students to concepts like credit scores, investment accounts, and savings accounts from an early age.
The highlight of the fair was undoubtedly having the author, Ty Allen Jackson, speak with the students about their businesses and sign books. Many students expressed how the experience had inspired them to take care of their money and consider pursuing entrepreneurship in the future.
