In 2023, a Las Vegas business owner was sentenced to 21 months in prison for defrauding a hospital. Roland Sagun Torres, the owner of at least two businesses, submitted fraudulent invoices totaling over $700,000 to the hospital. The scheme took place between 2020 and June 2022 when Torres used the names of at least 100 patients and doctors at the hospital to submit fake invoices.

On November 3, 2023, Torres pleaded guilty to his actions and was sentenced to 21 months in prison. In addition to his imprisonment, he will serve three years on parole and must pay $712,000 in restitution to the hospital. This case serves as a reminder of the consequences of committing fraud and the importance of accountability in business practices.
