The Las Vegas Aces secured their fourth consecutive win on Saturday, defeating the Washington Mystics 88-77. Despite the victory, it marked the end of a remarkable streak by A’ja Wilson, who had scored 20 or more points in 20 consecutive games. This streak began last season and set a new WNBA record, surpassing Diana Taurasi’s previous record of 13 games.
Wilson’s impressive run started on August 28, 2023 against the New York Liberty and carried through to the final five games of the season. During this stretch, Wilson recorded eight 30-point games, including two where she scored 36 points. She currently leads the WNBA in scoring, rebounding, and blocks, averaging an impressive 28 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game.
In the win against the Mystics on Saturday, Jackie Young led the Aces in scoring with an outstanding performance of his own. He scored an impressive 26 points while shooting an amazing 8-for-12 from the field and an equally impressive 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Chelsea Gray also had a great game as she contributed with a solid performance that saw her score an astounding 22 points while shooting at an incredible rate of 8-for-9 from field goal range and going three for three on three pointers .
Wilson added nine rebounds and five assists in what was undoubtedly a great team effort that saw them emerge victorious over their opponents. Additionally, Wilson surpassed Sophia Malcolm-Young to become the Aces’ all-time leader in rebounding with a career total of 1,815 rebounds . Even though her scoring streak has ended , it remains a testament to her incredible skill and contribution to her team’s success.
