The NBA’s free agency period is in full swing, with the Los Angeles Lakers still waiting to make a significant move. Despite missing out on Klay Thompson, who chose to join the Dallas Mavericks, the Lakers are still hopeful of making a roster-enhancing trade.

According to beat writer Jovan Buha, the Lakers are actively talking to three teams – the Portland Trail Blazers, Brooklyn Nets, and Utah Jazz – in hopes of making a deal. Buha emphasized that it is too early to count the Lakers out, as there is still a possibility of a game-changing trade before the offseason ends. General manager Rob Pelinka is known for making moves under the radar, and there could be a plan in place that could save the Lakers’ offseason.

One player the Lakers are reportedly interested in is Jerami Grant, a forward who had an impressive season averaging 21.0 points per game. Any potential trade would likely involve starting point guard D’Angelo Russell, who recently opted into the final year of his contract. The Lakers are also keeping an eye on LeBron James’ contract situation, as he has indicated a willingness to take a pay cut for the right free agent.

With just a few days left to upgrade the roster and reach an agreement with James, the Lakers are under pressure to make a move. James reportedly wants his contract situation resolved before the start of Team USA Olympics practice in Las Vegas, setting an unofficial deadline for the Lakers in free agency. The team has also had communication with free agent DeMar DeRozan, hinting at a potential move in the near future.
