The Lakers recently made a push to hire UConn men’s basketball head coach Dan Hurley, but after a week of trying to court him, Hurley decided to stay in the college ranks. With the NBA Draft coming up in just over two weeks, the Lakers are now back to looking for a new head coach.

The Lakers hope to have a new head coach in place before the NBA Draft, where they are expected to draft Bronny James in the second round. The team was interested in Hurley for his potential to develop Bronny, but now they need to find someone else who can prioritize player development. Despite making a strong push for Hurley with a significant offer, he declined, so the Lakers will need to look elsewhere for their next coach.

JJ Redick and James Borrego are potential candidates being considered, with Borrego having already interviewed with the team. Redick is an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers and previously was an assistant with the Los Angeles Clippers. Other names that were previously under consideration include Sam Cassell, David Adelman, Micah Nori and Chris Quinn.
