Polling stations across the United Kingdom opened early this morning and will remain open until 10pm local time. While all indications suggest a landslide victory for the Labour Party, led by Keir Starmer, who is expected to become the next prime minister. On the other hand, the Conservative Party, led by Rishi Sunak, is predicted to suffer a significant defeat. Sunak had called for earlier elections than anticipated, leading to projections that his party would have fewer seats than their historical minimum of 156 MPs set over a century ago.

In 1906, the Conservative Party had 156 MPs, but current estimates suggest they may have as few as 80 seats in this election. Meanwhile, the Labour Party is expected to win over 200 seats, surpassing their own historical best of 179 seats in 1997 when Tony Blair was in power. Despite these anticipated results, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is expected to hold onto his position as leader of the Conservative Party according to previews from The Times.
