The non-profit laboratory Kyutai was established by the iliad Group, the CMA CGM Group, and Schmidt Futures. Each of these organizations has contributed $110 million to fund the research facility. The aim of Kyutai is to tackle the main challenges of modern artificial intelligence (AI) through developing large multimodal models and inventing new algorithms to enhance their capacities, reliability, and efficiency.

Kyutai has already recruited a team of researchers with academic and business backgrounds. Rodolphe Saadé, President and CEO of the CMA CGM Group, expressed his excitement about this new venture saying that it will bring together the world’s best experts to address the challenges of AI. Xavier Niel, Chairman and Founder of the iliad Group added that Europe has everything it takes to win the AI race with its talented researchers, computing power, and dynamic AI ecosystem. Patrick Pérez, CEO of Kyutai stated that they are building an exceptional research team and looking forward to sharing their first results with the community.
