On Monday, the University of Kansas Health System and Liberty Hospital officially completed their merger. KU Health acquired Northland Hospital in a deal that was announced on July 1st.

The merger was finalized after leaders from both hospitals met to discuss potential partnerships in May. Liberty Hospital’s CEO, Raghu Adiga, stated that the hospital’s board of trustees and senior leaders evaluated over 30 potential partners before choosing KU Health as the right choice for their hospital. The partnership will bring benefits not only to Liberty Hospital but also to the community and region as a whole.

President of the Health System’s Kansas City division, Tammy Peterman, expressed excitement about the merger, emphasizing its importance in the overall growth of the area. With over 35% of their patients coming from Missouri, this will be KU Health’s first hospital in Missouri. As part of the merger, KU Health plans to invest over $300 million in bringing new services to Liberty in the next 12 years.
