Kreeta Karvala, a veteran news reporter with extensive experience in analyzing Finnish politics on television, has been appointed as Kauppalehti’s new Brussels correspondent. This marks the end of Saara Koho’s tenure in the position since 2021. In his new role, Karvala will cover EU decision-making, European economy, monetary policy, economic institutions, defense and security policy, and NATO for Kauppalehti and Alma Business Media’s magazines.

Karvala currently works in Iltalehti’s politics and editorial department and has received prestigious awards such as the Suomen Kuvalehti Journalism Award in 2023 and the Olli Award from the Finnish Journalists’ Association in 2017. Editor-in-chief Riina Nevalainen is thrilled to have Karvala join the editorial team due to his qualifications and experience.

Kauppalehti relies heavily on a network of correspondents and regular assistants around the world to report on economic and political events. Some of the key correspondents include Jukka Lehtinen (New York), Veera Honkanen (San Francisco), Joanna Palmén (Stockholm), Auli Valpola (London), Katja Kröger (Udine), Jyrki Palo (Madrid), Anna Saraste (Berlin), and Pia Heikkilä (New Delhi). Nevalainen stresses that correspondents play a crucial role in providing readers with an up-to-date and comprehensive understanding of global trends affecting Finns.
