Sloan McGhee and Anthony Oscar, two young fishermen from Bellville, have qualified for the TBF Junior World Championship on Lake Hartwell in Anderson County, South Carolina. They earned this honor by competing with youth anglers from all around Ohio at the Ohio Bass Federation Jr. State Championship on May 11 at Alum Creek Lake in Columbus.

Despite adverse weather conditions during the championship, McGhee and Oscar, part of the Kokosing Valley Junior Anglers team, were able to secure the second-largest five-fish bag of the tournament, weighing in at 9.30 pounds. Jeremy Reese, Ohio Bass Federation Youth Director, noted that the state program aims to prepare youth anglers for high-level events as they grow. McGhee and Oscar demonstrated the necessary traits of successful tournament anglers by spending time preparing before the event and contributing to their success on tournament day.

Reese expects to see McGhee and Oscar continue to excel in future fishing competitions. The young fishermen will now be competing in South Carolina with the goal of bringing the TBF Junior World Championship title back home to Richland County.
