The upcoming SoFi Play-In Tournament will feature a matchup between the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings. Recent reports have sparked speculation about Klay Thompson’s summer plans, with talks of him potentially exploring free agency. While there is mutual interest between Thompson and the Orlando Magic, the Warriors have made it clear that they want to bring him back at the right price and in the right role.

Thompson’s decision will likely come down to money and role, as the Warriors want his contract to align with that of Draymond Green, who was extended last summer. However, the Orlando Magic could offer him a starting role as a two-guard and potentially more money to help bring shooting and veteran leadership to their team.

In the short term, Thompson is set to attend the Bahamian national basketball team Olympic team training camp in Houston. Although he won’t be cleared to play in the Olympic qualifying matches for the Bahamas, it’s still a valuable opportunity for him to stay engaged in the sport. Thompson previously won a Gold Medal with Team USA in the 2016 Rio Olympics, so playing for another national team would require an official release from USA Basketball and approval from FIBA, which is unlikely to happen.

The Bahamas are in a tough Olympic qualifying group, facing teams like Spain, Lebanon, Angola, Finland, and Poland. Only one team will advance to Paris 2024 Olympics so competition will be fierce. Thompson’s presence at training camp shows his commitment to staying active and involved in basketball even if he can’t compete in upcoming matches.

Overall Thompson has several options available to him during this offseason and it remains uncertain where he will end up next season but one thing is certain he will continue his legacy as one of NBA greatest shooters no matter where he lands next season
