Klay Thompson has signed a three-year, $50 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks, marking the end of his successful tenure with the Golden State Warriors. Mychal Thompson, who played for the Lakers and won two championships with the team, had hoped that his son would finish his career in Los Angeles.

Klay’s move to Dallas marks a new chapter in his career as he joins stars like Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving in Dallas. Despite Mychal’s efforts to sway his son towards joining the Lakers, Klay ultimately chose to join the Mavericks. The decision was a difficult one for Mychal, who had always envisioned seeing his son play for the Lakers, influenced by his admiration for Kobe Bryant.

Last season, Klay averaged 17.9 points while shooting 38.7% from three-point range, which was his lowest scoring output since the 2012-13 season. Regardless of where he plays next season, Mychal supports Klay’s decision and hopes for his continued success on and off the court.
