Kenyan runner Beatrice Chebet made history by breaking the women’s 10,000m world record at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon. The 24-year-old athlete crossed the finish line in 28 minutes and 54.15 seconds at Hayward Field, becoming the first woman to run under 29 minutes in this event. This accomplishment surpassed the previous world record set by Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey in 2021, which was 29:01.03.

Chebet has previously won silver and bronze medals in the 5000m at the world championships in the last two years.
