At the Prefontaine Classic meet in Eugene, Oregon, Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet made history by setting a new world record in the 10,000 meters event. She crossed the finish line in an incredible time of 28 minutes and 54.14 seconds, surpassing the previous record set by Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey in 2021.

Despite being just 24 years old, Chebet has already achieved great success in her career. She won the silver medal in the 5,000 meters event at the world championships held at Hayward Field in 2022 and claimed the bronze in the same event at the previous year’s worlds in Budapest.

The race took place under cloudy and cool weather conditions at Hayward Field. Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia finished second, clocking in at 29:05.92. Despite his impressive performance, Tsegay was unable to beat Chebet’s outstanding time.

The Prefontaine Classic serves as the only American stop on the prestigious international Diamond League series, attracting top athletes from around the world to compete at the highest level. The race is always highly anticipated and draws large crowds of spectators who come to witness history being made on track.
