In a remarkable achievement, Kenyan athlete Beatrice Chebet set a new world record in the 10,000 meters event at the Prefontaine Classic meet. She finished the race in an impressive time of 28 minutes and 54.14 seconds, surpassing the previous record set by Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey.

Chebet expressed her gratitude to her management, coach, and supporters back home for their unwavering support. She credited her success to her body responding well during the race, showcasing her dedication and hard work.

Lilian Kasait Rengeruk, another Kenyan athlete, claimed the third spot with a time of 29 minutes and 26.89 seconds. Chebet, who is 24 years old, has previously won silver and bronze medals in the 5,000 meters event at world championships held in Hayward Field and Budapest.

The Prefontaine Classic is a significant event in the international Diamond League series and serves as the only American stop on the tour. The competition took place in cloudy and cool conditions at Eugene’s Hayward Field. Chebet secured her qualification to compete in the 10,000 meters event at the upcoming Paris Olympics.
