In recognition of a generous $125 million donation from Kenneth C. Griffin, the founder and CEO of the Citadel hedge fund, the Museum of Science and Industry in Hyde Park is set to undergo a major transformation. This name change is in honor of Griffin’s significant contribution to the museum. The funds have allowed for the development of new exhibits and experiences, including a Griffin Studio digital space and Notes to Neurons, an interactive multimedia exhibit dedicated to music.

Kenneth C. Griffin has been a prominent arts benefactor in Chicago, having also made significant donations to the Field Museum, the Art Institute, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and other institutions and nonprofits. He previously served on the board of the Museum of Contemporary Art. Despite formerly being ranked as the wealthiest person in Illinois, Griffin moved Citadel’s headquarters to Miami in 2022.

To mark the occasion, the museum will be offering free admission on Sunday. The museum’s announcement also highlights the support provided by Griffin’s donation for the renovated Henry Crown Space Center, which now houses the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, as well as a film experience titled “Superhuman Body: World of Medical Marvels.” This investment will enhance the visitor experience at the museum and showcase the intersection of science, technology, and industry.
