On August 19, 2023, during a game against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium, Kansas City Chiefs backup defensive end BJ Thompson experienced a medical emergency. While participating in a special teams meeting, Thompson suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest. He was quickly transported to the hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.

Thompson’s agent, Chris Turnage, later confirmed that his client is “awake and responsive,” and is on the road to recovery. This unfortunate incident led to the cancellation of team practice and media availability on Thursday.

The Chiefs have just one more week of OTA workouts before they start mandatory minicamp on June 11. After that, official training camp will begin in July. Despite this frightening incident, it appears that Thompson’s prognosis is positive and he is on track for a full recovery.
