Universal’s “Jurassic World” sequel is currently in development, and Mahershala Ali is in talks to join the cast. If he signs on, he will join Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Rupert Friend in the upcoming film. The movie will be directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp, with a planned release date of July 2, 2025.

The “Jurassic Park” franchise has been a massive success for Universal since its inception in 1994. The series has grossed over $1 billion worldwide with the release of “Jurassic World Dominion” in 2022 and inspired theme park rides and merchandise. Steven Spielberg, who directed the original “Jurassic Park,” will serve as an executive producer for the new sequel, with Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley producing.

Mahershala Ali is a two-time Oscar winner for his roles in “Moonlight” and “Green Book,” and has also appeared in various film and TV projects including “Leave the World Behind,” “Spider-Verse,” “Ramy,” “True Detective,” and “House of Cards.” He is represented by WME, Cognition, Relevant, and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern, LLP. The news of Ali’s potential casting was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
