Jordan Thompson continued his impressive run at the Queen’s Club tournament in London with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals. This win marked Thompson’s second victory over a top-15 opponent in the same week, showcasing his impressive form on the grass court. The 30-year-old Australian capitalized on Fritz’s unforced errors to advance to the semifinals and achieve a career first: three tour-level semifinals in one season.

Thompson, currently ranked No. 43, had not won a tour-level match since April before his breakthrough at the Queen’s Club. He defeated No. 15 Holger Rune and advanced when Andy Murray retired injured from their second-round match, setting the stage for his upset over Fritz. In a post-match interview, Thompson expressed his satisfaction with his performance and overcoming a recent rough patch to excel on the grass court.

The Australian player will now face Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals, following Musetti’s victory over British wild-card entry Billy Harris in straight sets. Musetti, ranked No. 30, had previously scored an upset by eliminating the second-seeded Alex de Minaur in the first round, showcasing his prowess on grass. Despite his defeat, Harris will see a rise in his rankings and is set to make his Wimbledon debut as a wild card recipient.

In other quarterfinal matchups, Jack Draper is set to take on No. 13 Tommy Paul while Sebastian Korda will face Rinky Hijikata later on Friday
