The US and British armies launched a joint naval and air attack on 13 Houthi targets in Yemen on May 30th, in response to recent attacks on ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. Among the targets were fortified underground facilities, missile launchers, command posts, and one of the Houthi ships. Additionally, eight unmanned aerial vehicles ready to be launched were also attacked.
The Houthi news agency Al-Masirah reported overnight that at least two people were killed and ten wounded as a result of one of the strikes on a radio station building in Hodeidah. However, around noon, the death toll was updated to 56. Houthi Politburo member Ali al-Kahum stated, “Yemen will not surrender. The Americans and British are opening the gates of hell.”
The attacks on Houthi targets were carried out after a statement by the leader of the Ansar Allah group, Abdel Malik al-Houthi, in which he announced the start of the “fourth phase” of the operation and threatened to increase the intensity of attacks on ships and expand the list of targets for his group. In this statement, al-Houthi summarized the “first three stages of the operation,” noting that 129 ships have been attacked since November 2023. This week alone, ten ships linked to the US, UK, and Israel were targeted by the Houthis in various seas.
