During a recent meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, 15 Korean experts and scientists offered guidance to help Vietnam strengthen its semiconductor and artificial intelligence sectors. Dr. Chang Joon-Yeon of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) emphasized the importance of government and investor commitment to the semiconductor industry. He pointed out that the Korean government had invested in the Semiconductor Research Center and highlighted the need for trained experts and scientists in this field.

Professor Lim Jung-Wook of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) noted that Vietnam has a strong advantage in human resources and urged the Vietnamese government to invest in training elite human resources for the semiconductor industry. He expressed interest in exploring training plans for students trained in semiconductors in Vietnam, recognizing their potential as valuable assets to the country’s future technological development.

Professor Jeong Moon-seok of Hanyang University warned about the risk of other countries attracting semiconductor human resources with attractive policies. Meanwhile, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat focused on cooperation with KIST and Korea in AI technology, specifically highlighting AI technologies’ applications across various sectors such as brain-simulating chips, artificial neural networks, and quantum computing. He emphasized that developing talented individuals is crucial to Vietnam’s success as a leader in these industries.

Minister Dat also discussed ongoing cooperation plans between Vietnam and South Korea on research development projects related to these fields. Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Planning and Investment, outlined his government’s strategies for attracting investments in semiconductors and AI, including plans to train 50,000 semiconductor human resources by 2030 through policy mechanisms designed to facilitate this training process. Viettel’s Chairman Tao Duc Thang expressed his willingness to cooperate with Korean enterprises on semiconductors and AI projects.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the Korean experts for their advice during his official visit to Korea, reiterating Vietnam’s commitment to developing high-value industries such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence through intergovernmental cooperation with South Korea on these topics.
