Tyler Reddick secured the second spot on the grid for Sunday’s race at Sonoma Raceway, just behind Joey Logano who clinched his second career pole position. Logano navigated the repaved road course at a record pace, with his previous pole at Sonoma coming in 2011. This marks his third pole on a road course.
Reddick clocked a lap of 97.661 mph, just 0.11 mph slower than Logano, while Ryan Blaney qualified in third place with a lap of 97.566 mph. Chase Elliott grabbed the fourth spot with a lap of 97.562 mph, and Kyle Larson rounded out the top five despite hitting a tire barrier in Turn 4 during the final round of qualifying.
Hendrick Motorsports had a strong showing in qualifying, with all four of their cars making it to the final round. William Byron will start sixth, while Alex Bowman will start eighth for Hendrick Motorsports. Defending Sonoma race winner Martin Truex Jr., however, will start in 21st place.
Two Australian Supercars drivers will be making their Cup debut – Will Brown starting 24th for Richard Childress Racing and Cam Waters starting 31st for RFK Racing. The Cup race is set to start at 3:50 p.m. ET on Sunday, with the last eight races having been won by eight different drivers.
