US President Joe Biden has acknowledged that his performance at the recent Presidential debate against Donald Trump was not up to par. The 81-year-old attributed his lackluster showing to jet lag after making two trips abroad in early June. Despite the criticisms he faced, Biden explained that he had not been feeling well due to a cold during the debate.

Biden’s busy schedule leading up to the debate included visits to France and Italy, with multiple time zone crossings, followed by a fundraising event in Los Angeles with Former President Barack Obama. He then spent time at Camp David to prepare for the debate, but still struggled with his performance on stage.

Following the debate, there have been calls for Biden to withdraw his candidacy for re-election. A Reuters/Ipsos poll indicated that one in three Democrats believe he should step down. However, in a hypothetical matchup against Trump, no other prominent Democratic candidate performed better than Biden.

Despite the controversies surrounding his debate performance, Biden has maintained his support among voters. A recent survey showed him tied with Trump in the race for the presidential election in November, with both candidates receiving 40 percent of registered voter support. This indicates that Biden has not lost ground since the debate and remains a formidable opponent in the upcoming election.
