JetBlue is introducing a new policy that will make flying with the airline more affordable for its customers. Starting on September 6, travelers with Blue Basic tickets will receive a complimentary carry-on bag as part of their ticket. This new policy applies to all Blue Basic tickets, regardless of when they were purchased.

Currently, most Blue Basic tickets do not include a carry-on bag and travelers who wish to bring one must pay an additional fee to check it in ($65 for the first or second checked bag). However, this new policy aims to improve the customer experience and keep JetBlue competitive in the industry by offering carry-on bags at no extra cost.

JetBlue’s president, Marty St. George, stated that carry-on bags are an important part of the travel experience for customers and by including them in Blue Basic tickets, the airline hopes to stand out from its competitors. He said that this move is intended to improve customer satisfaction and maintain JetBlue’s position as a leading low-cost airline.

With this change, Blue Basic travelers will receive one carry-on bag and one personal item included in their ticket. However, they will still need to pay for a checked bag if they choose to bring one and will not receive additional perks such as ticket changes or free seat selection like those with Blue fare tickets.

This change follows JetBlue’s introduction of a peak and off-peak pricing structure for baggage fees in March and raising baggage prices in February. Other airlines such as United Airlines also charge basic economy passengers for carry-on bags with some exceptions for certain routes.
