The Jacksonville City Council has approved a $1.4 billion renovation deal for EverBank Stadium with the Jaguars, which was met with great excitement and enthusiasm from the community. The deal required a majority vote from the council members, and it passed 14-1 with two abstentions. Mayor Donna Deegan expressed her gratitude to the leadership of Shad Khan, his team, and the city council for reaffirming their commitment to keeping the Jaguars in Jacksonville for at least another 30 years.

The renovation project, known as “the stadium of the future,” will ensure that the team remains in Jacksonville for years to come. NFL owners are expected to finalize the agreement in October, with construction slated to begin after the 2025 season. The city has agreed to contribute $775 million towards the stadium renovations and $56 million towards a revised community benefits agreement, as reported by Hanna Holthaus of Florida Times-Union.

Mayor Deegan highlighted her gratitude for this partnership during negotiations and thanked her colleagues on the council for passing this historic deal that will benefit not only Jacksonville but also North Florida’s economy and residents. During these renovations, while playing at EverBank Stadium in front of a reduced capacity crowd in 2026, fans can expect exciting times ahead as they witness firsthand how this collaboration is turning renderings into reality for our beloved football team. It’s worth noting that plans are underway to host home games either in Gainesville or Orlando during 2027 until EverBank Stadium is fully restored.
