J.J. McCarthy’s recent experience at a Minnesota Twins game has put an end to any speculation about a career change to baseball. While McCarthy was honored to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, his performance did not go as planned. The pitch got away from the catcher, resulting in what could be considered a wild pitch. Although it may not have been as disastrous as some all-time bad first pitches (such as 50 Cent’s infamous throw), it was still pretty bad for a professional athlete who is used to throwing things for a living.

The first pitch at a baseball game is often seen as a no-win situation for athletes. If they nail it, it’s expected of them. But if they fail, they can expect to be teased relentlessly for their poor performance. In some cases, they may even end up with a humorous nickname based on their blunder. For McCarthy, this experience might have him known as “J.J. Lo-and-Outside” due to his errant throw at the Twins game. Despite this setback, McCarthy can rest assured that his career as a quarterback is safe and secure.
