The Yankees strengthened their lineup on Sunday by acquiring right-handed batter J.D. Davis from the Oakland Athletics. In exchange, the club sent infielder Jordan Groshans to Oakland. Davis, who was recently designated for assignment by the Athletics, is expected to bring some right-handed power to the Yankees’ lineup with Giancarlo Stanton sidelined due to a left hamstring strain.

In 39 games this season, Davis had a .236 batting average with four home runs. The 31-year-old has a career slash line of .259/.341/.427 with 72 home runs and 220 RBI in eight pro seasons. His standout season came in 2019 with the Mets when he hit .307 with an .895 OPS, 22 home runs, and 57 RBI.

Groshans, on the other hand, was claimed off waivers by the Yankees from the Miami Marlins in February. The 24-year-old has spent time in the Marlins’, Yankees’, and Blue Jays’ organizations. Davis could potentially fill in at first base, third base or designated hitter for the Yankees while Stanton is on the injured list.
