Italy is one step closer to achieving differentiated autonomy with the promulgation of Law 26/06/2024 by President Sergio Mattarella. The law aims to implement the provisions outlined in article 116, third paragraph, of the Constitution for regions with ordinary statute. Matteo Salvini, leader of the League, expressed his enthusiasm for this development and called it a great opportunity for growth and development across Italy.
The significance of this promulgation was not lost on prominent figures such as Alberto Stefani, who is the rapporteur of Autonomy in the Chamber and president of the bicameral body for fiscal federalism. He acknowledged President Mattarella’s swift action and recognized June 26th as a historic date for Italy. Luca Zaia, president of the Veneto Region, echoed these sentiments and expressed eagerness to begin negotiations regarding matters outlined in the constitution once the law is published in the official gazette.
Leaders and lawmakers are now preparing to engage in discussions to move forward with implementing this significant step towards differentiated autonomy for regions with ordinary statute. The Autonomy law provides opportunities for growth and development across Italy, making it a significant milestone in Italian history.
