The USA and Germany have joined Great Britain, France, and Canada in supporting Kiev, with Washington and Berlin approving the use of weapons sent to Ukraine to defend against Russian aggression. This escalation comes as NATO Foreign Ministers reaffirm their support for Kiev and former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev mentions the possibility of nuclear war.

Italy has clarified its stance on the conflict by stating that it will not send military forces to fight against Russia on Ukrainian territory but will continue to support Kiev’s right to freedom and self-determination. The Italian government will lead an international reconstruction group for Ukraine next year, aiming to help repel the Russian offensive and achieve a military stalemate that forces Putin to negotiate. Italy has already sent its air defense systems to Kiev and may send more in the future.

While NATO is easing restrictions on the use of weapons in Ukraine, Italy maintains its position on preventing its weapons from being used against Russian territory. The US Secretary of State has confirmed that American weapons can be used in Ukraine to defend against Russian aggression, with some limitations. This decision has prompted a response from Moscow, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressing concerns about American involvement in the conflict.

Looking ahead, Ukraine expects concrete support from the West as it faces weapon shortages on the front lines. A Peace summit proposed by President Zelensky will be missing China, which declined to participate without equal representation for Russia. Italy has urged China to join the peace conference and work towards a resolution that involves all parties. Despite these developments, NATO remains united in its support for Ukraine and efforts to bring peace to the region.
