On October 7, a massacre occurred in Israel, claiming the lives of 250 people. Two weeks prior to this event, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and intelligence systems had knowledge of Hamas’ plan to attack and kill civilians. According to the Jewish News Agency (AJN), a document titled “Detailed End-to-End Raid Training” was compiled by the IDF Division specializing in the Gaza Strip. The document outlined Hamas’ intentions and was known to senior officials in the intelligence services, as reported by Israel’s public broadcaster, Kan News.

The training exercises described in the document included storming military posts and kibbutzim, kidnapping soldiers and civilians, and holding hostages captive once transferred to the Palestinian coastal enclave. Despite Israeli intelligence officials being aware of these plans and monitoring their actions, a security failure occurred on October 7th. This mission was considered complex and high-risk by Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari.

According to Hagari, the failure of the security barrier completed two years before the attack was attributed to a major intelligence and security oversight. Investigation teams are expected to present their conclusions on this failure as Israeli society tries to understand how such a security breach could have happened despite prior knowledge of Hamas’ plans.
