Israel has dropped over 70,000 tons of bombs on the Gaza Strip since last October, which is more than the combined bombing of Dresden, Hamburg, and London during World War II. The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor estimates that between Oct. 7 and April 24, approximately 70,000 tons of bombs were dropped on Gaza. The bombings have resulted in the destruction of buildings up to one kilometer in the east and north of the Strip in order to create a buffer zone.

During World War II, Germany dropped around 18,300 tons of bombs on London from 1940 to 1941 while the Allies dropped 8,500 tons on Hamburg in 1943 and 3,900 tons on Dresden in 1945. Despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire, Israel has continued its offensive on Gaza resulting in the deaths of over 36,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children and injuries to nearly 83,000 others.

After eight months of war large parts of Gaza are in ruins and essential supplies like food clean water and medicine continue to be blocked from reaching residents due to Israeli occupation. Israel has been accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice which has ordered Tel Aviv to cease its operation in Rafah where over a million Palestinians sought refuge before it was invaded on May
