During a recent meeting, Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, expressed his full support for the ceasefire plan proposed by President Joe Biden and endorsed by the United Nations Security Council. Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed this information, stating that Netanyahu reaffirmed his commitment to the initiative during their conversation last night.
Blinken has also met with various Israeli political leaders, including those from the opposition, as well as the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority. The journalist noted that nearly everyone is in favor of the proposal, with Hamas being the only exception. Even if Hamas were to agree to Biden’s plan, Blinken suggested that Israel would not change its stance.
The ceasefire plan consists of three phases. The first phase involves exchanging hostages for prisoners and a short-term ceasefire. The second phase includes a permanent cessation of hostilities and the complete withdrawal of Israeli military forces from Gaza. The final phase entails a multi-year reconstruction plan for the Gaza Strip. Blinken did not provide any further details on potential disagreements in subsequent phases of the plan.
