The Ministry of Defense has recently signed a contract with Elbit Maarahot concern for the purchase of large quantities of ammunition for the ground forces. This contract is valued at 2.8 billion shekels and will take place at Elbit’s factories in Israel over several years. The Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Eyal Zamir, announced this news as part of the Ministry’s efforts to meet the needs of the armed forces during times of conflict.

The Israeli government has allocated 63 billion shekels towards arms purchases since the outbreak of war, with around 40 billion shekels placed with domestic manufacturers as part of a program to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. This investment aims to strengthen the domestic defense industry and ensure self-sufficiency in times of crisis. In response to this need, defense enterprises are working at full capacity to meet demand for ammunition.

To maintain a strong industrial base in Israel that supports national security goals, the Ministry of Defense has requested that the Land Administration delay the dismantling of an Elbit plant in Ramat Hasharon, which is scheduled to move to the Negev. Both manufacturing plants are expected to operate in parallel to meet demand for ammunition, highlighting the importance of maintaining a strong domestic defense industry in Israel.
